FULL CIRCLE: THE LAST LATE-NIGHT CARNIVAL
Born out of the project Zuvuya, the current members of Zilla first united in March of 2003 under the name Crop Circle Brain Factory for a legendary late-night Winter Carnival after-party next door to the Fillmore w/ Elastic Mystic (Bassnectar & Michael Kang duo)
After 3 more Winter Carnival runs, over 300 Zilla concerts to date, a half-dozen cross country US tours, 2 tours of Japan, 5 tours of Canada & Alaska, 2 trips to the Caribbean, the band’s very own multi-day camping festival, & a countless number of landmark career moments, it becomes apparent that none of this magic may have ever been if it wasn’t for Zilla’s epic late-night Winter Carnival after-parties each March in Colorado.
The recent news of the upcoming String Cheese disbandment brings with it many new beginnings & final experiences for all of us, but in the Zilla community, the most missed tradition will surely be the band’s Winter Carnival after-shows, which have been responsible for shaping the Zilla community from the very beginning. This March we will travel Full Circle & collectively share what may prove to be the last of the Winter Carnival Zilla After-Parties, which have truly been the lifeblood of Zilla since show number One!
SCI Winter Carnival: Zilla After-Parties
Sat, 3/24 Cervante’s Denver, CO w/ OOAH
Tue, 3/27 8150 Club Vail, CO w/ OOAH

ZILLA "ALL IZ" -
NOW IN STORES
Zilla- "all iZ" CD
cover created from artwork by visionary artist Luke
Brown (spectraleyes.com)
ok friendz- here it iz: The official announcement
from SCI
Fidelity Records:
"Colorado trio ZILLA [The
String Cheese Incident’s Michael Travis (drums,
percussion, keyboards, sampler, mallet Kat) Jamie
Janover (hammered dulcimer, Mini-kit, electric
kalimba, mini-sitar, sampler, percussion, tamboura,
tongue drum, water) and Aaron Holstein (bass, keyboards,
sampler, vocals/vocoder/beatbox)] always keep the
live musical experience in mind. A 100% organic,
improvised creation, each ZILLA concert proves
to be a completely unique occurrence, with even
the band members having no idea where the music
will take them night after night. Relying on their
uncanny ability to listen and incorporate their
individual talents into a group focused brand of
live electronic dance music, ZILLA is sweeping
the country with their rare breed of beats, bass
and uncontrollable musical fury.
all iZ, the
band’s first studio release, which is due
to hit streets on September 5, 2006, offers
two full discs of musical spontaneity, flow, grooves
and a damn good dance party! Its 13 tracks were
improvised live in the studio in Boulder, Colorado
in February 2006." |

Official
announcement from Zilla: Travis,
Jamie, and Aaron would like to sincerely
thank our dear bro and keyboardist Steve
Vidaic for all of his contributions to Zilla.
We each truly feel that Zilla could never
have become what it has without Steve’s
involvement. He has had a huge part in the
development of the band’s concept and
sound. Steve’s involvement in the band
Citizen Cope has now grown to a full-time
commitment which has made it impossible for
him to continue playing with Zilla. We sincerely
wish him and Citizen Cope great success.
The remaining three of us have found in our
usual upside-down and inside-out manner that
playing as a trio has created a new layer
of musical connection between us. We have
each had to stretch ourselves musically and
spiritually to make the trio fly. The result
has been a very positive experience for us.
We are each completely inspired by the new
Zilla and ready to plunge forward as a trio.
We love you Steve, thank you for helping
to create Zilla and for helping the band
to find its hidden inner trio… we wish
you the very best. |

and many nights of full tilt Zilla madness to
ensue. More reports from the road soon.... |

We
are currently in Park City, UT. Tour has been
good to us - skiing and music every day is a
routine we can get used to. The music is constantly
evolving and improving - we are very much looking
forward to the many gigs booked including the
Joshua Tree Music Festival, the Bobolink Music
Festival and late night after SCI in Denver on
3/26. I knew that calling our tour "Bussy
on ice" would mean that we never hit a single
patch of ice and it worked! Thanks to all of
you who have come out in support of the music
on this mountain west ski tour. More soon. Peace,

The Warfield

12
Galaxies
|
Big
changes to the upcoming july west coast Zilla
mini tour.
Our
previous plan revolved around the Lollapalooza
schedule, playing San Francisco and Santa Barbara
when String Cheese Incident was to be off. As I
am sure you know, Lolla was cancelled and much
scrambling was done to re-rout SCI (and our pal
and Drummer, Travis) Thus, the Zilla show scheduled
for Monday July 19 in San Francisco has been Cancelled.
The Show in Santa Barbara at Soho also is Cancelled……
So check this out….
Instead, Zilla will
be playing at The Warfield, opening
for String Cheese Incident on Wednesday July 21 AND playing
a latenight show after SCI at 12
Galaxies.
As planned, Zilla will be
@ The
Knitting Factory in LA on July
22 and on Saturday July 24th in Las
Vegas latenight at The Boston.

6/23/2003
Zilla
at the Sheridan Opera House In Telluride, CO included
many special guests. Stanley Jordan & Justin
King both sat in on guitar. Stanley played
a jam with Zilla & then was left alone on the
stage for a few solo tunes. Then he was joined
by Justin King on guitar & they
did a duet as the rest of the gang watched from
the side of the stage. As the band, one by one,
returned to the stage they were joined by Future
man (drums) and Jeff Coffin (sax)
from Bela Fleck & the Flecktones.
Then came vocals from Liza Oxnard & Libby
Kirkpatrick. Much madness ensued....

Zilla
had big fun this past weekend in Colorado. Guitar
legend Stanley Jordan joined the band for the entire
show on Friday the 6th @ Cervante's Masterpiece
Ballroom in Denver. Stanley is an amazing person
and an amazing musician. The band was honored to
have him play with us on his night off in Denver.
Saturday night in Boulder was a full-tilt Zilla
hometown hoedown. A blast! Second set the band
was joined by drummer extroirdinaire Joe Russo.
Then in the middle of the set Michael Kang (the
String Cheese Incident), Jans Ingber (the Motet),
and Sunny Michelson (Chupacabra) jumped on stage
causing the party to turn into an all out joy-fest.
Pictures from the weekend are up on the Photos page. MP3s from
the weekend are on there way up on the MP3s

Thanks to everyone who came out this weekend! |

Back
from our maiden voyage aboard the road-ship "Bussy"!
We all had an incredible journey. Tour was a musical
adventure
from
night to night. Each show unfolded into uncharted
musical realms that we have never visited before.
Our crew helped us beyond words, the crowds
were all very kind - they listened and DANCED!
Thank you to all of you who came out and contributed
to the vibes that we created together. We really
appreciate your support and energy. The tour
was a healing experience for all and we are
inspired to play more. There are 4 June gigs
coming up - check the schedule page. We are
hoping to put together a live CD form the best
of the May tour (we recorded the whole tour).
We hope to see some of you again, and for those
of you who have not heard our music yet, check-out
the MP3 page. If you would like to join our
e-mail list, send an e-mail to zilla@zillamusic.com
peace, Jamie Janover

Zilla - The Crop
Circle Brain Factory Tour 2003
Zilla
will be hitting the road on their 2003 "Crop
Circle Brain Factory"
tour starting with a gig in New Orleans
on May 3rd (during the famous Jazz & Heritage
Festival). This late-night show is billed
with another Boulder based band called
Cabaret Diosa along with Hamsa Lila from
San Francisco. From there the band heads
north through Texas and the mid-west
to Chicago and Madison for their last
show on May 18th.
Zilla
with be riding in style in "Bussy" -
the trusted work horse that The String Cheese
Incident used to tour in for years. You can recognize
her because she has a mural of an Aspen grove
all across her sides and even has a place to
carry your skis along the side (she used to shuttle
skiers from the town of Crested Butte, CO up
to the ski mountain).
